Gymnasts Finish Season
The Maine West gymnastic team ended their dismal season on a bright note when Patrick Dent finished eleventh in the state tournament in the floor exercise routine.

Dent got to the state finals by placing in the sectionals. Gregg Trecker, John Pifke, Mark Rocque, and Todd Schludt were also competing in the sectionals but did not place for the state meet.

Dent got to the sectionals by placing fifth in the parallel bars with a 7.10 and an all around average of 5.80. Trecker qualified for the sectionals by finishing seventh on the parallel bars with a score of 6.60. Pifke had a 6.85 on still rings to get to the sectionals. Rocque got to sectionals by placing on the side horse, and Schludt got to the sectionals on the trampoline.
The musclemen finished the regular season with a win over Palatine 87.38 to 64.51 on Feb. 7. The varsity finished with a record of 3-11. Other members of the squad were Mike Dalenberg, Ray Redmond, and Mark Vogel. The varsity had a young team with only Dent and Pifke being seniors.

The sophomores finished with a 5-9 record. Outstanding performers for the season were Don Steffan with 3.0 average on high bars, Glen Ruttan with a 2.8 average in floor exercise, Joe Jones with a 2.5 on the still rings. and Eric Lundquist with a 2.2 on the trampoline.

Other members of the sophomore squad were Doug Bozza, Steve Foy, Steve Lytle. Jim Rosner, Jim Schwab, and Tom Stephanson.
