Jumpers Klebe, Meyers
Perform Outstandingly
This year's varsity track squad is the best ever, and two of the biggest reasons are Mike Klebe and Steve Myers. The term biggest is no lie. Klebe stands 6' 6 1/2" and Myers is 6' 6". Both Warriors are competing in the same events, high jump and triple jump.

Coach Ron Brown had ill feelings about the triple jump and figured that the Warriors would not even place. But at the Central Suburban League Indoor Conference Track Meet at Maine East, Klebe and Myers swept the event. Klebe hit a new conference mark, with a 42' 8" jump; Myers was close behind with a leap of 41' 0".

In the high jump again it was the dynamic duo. Klebe won with a 6' 4" bound and Myers in second 6' 2". That gave the two a total of 36 points which was higher than four of the eight participating teams total points.
At the Evanston relays, a meet in which most Chicago schools dominate, Klebe and Myers went to work and stunned everyone. Klebe powered over the bar which was set at a unheard of height of 6' 7", while Myers came in second with a leap of 6' 6". The two jumps sent the crowd and all other members of the track squad into a mass frenzy of delight.
Coach Brown had this comment, "Occasionally I may have a few good athletes, but this year they all are. It's a coach's dream to have two boys who can jump more than 6' 5" in some colleges. I have two in high school; it's just obscene!"
