West Runners Win Fourth CSL Title
Winning is the rule rather than the exception. This is perhaps the best way to describe this year's Warrior track team which continued to roll over virtually all opponents these past three weeks.

For the fourth time in a row, the Warrior trackmen won the C.S.L.'s South Division Conference Meet. This, combined with a blue ribbon showing in the Blue Demon Relays and a strong second place showing in the Evanston Relays, will set the stage for what might be a remembered outdoor season this spring.

This week's Warrior stars were two of the main reasons why, the Warriors were successful at the conference meet. Mike Klebe and Steve Myers placed one‑two in both the high jump and triple jump, the latter being one of the few weak spots in the Warrior battle plan before the meet. For his efforts, Klebe set two new conference records in a meet in which all winners would do likewise because of the new conference setup.

Others setting conference records for West were Jeff Brydges in the 880‑yard run and the twomile relay team of Brydges, Mark Caras, Don Murray, and Greg Koeller.
Other high place finishers were Brian Tolan in the two‑mile run, finishing second; Scot Unger and Tony Krainik, second and third respectively in the 50-yard dash; Krainik, second, in the 440‑yard run; Paul Lippold and Joe Farrell, second and fourth respectively in the high hurdles; Jim Winiecki and Joe Genualdi, second and fourth in the pole vault; the mile relay team of Don Kern, Unger, Koeller, and Krainik; and the four lap relay of Unger, Krainik, Koeller, and Farrel which finished second.

At the Blue Demon relays Klebe set a new meet record as he leaped 6' 7" in the high jump. He was awarded as MVP for his effort. Others helping the team to victory were Simon Schum, Dennis Ostrowski, Krainik, and Farrell in the class relay; Krainik in the 50‑yard dash; Unger, Koeller, Brydges, and Murray in the mile relay; Shum, Mike Krause, Jim Lamberty, and Dan Martin in the freshman four‑lap relay; Brydges, Murray, Koeller, and Caras in the two‑mile relay; Winiecki in the pole vault;

Unger, Krainik, Kern, and Farrell in the four‑lap relay; and the sophomore four‑lap relay team of Bill Hendrickson, Dan Morrison, Jim Kenyon, and Terry Walters.

High place scores for the Warriors at Evanston were the fourlap relay team of Unger, Koeller, Krainik and Farrell; the two‑mile relay team of Brydges, Tolan, Koeller, and Murray, which is currently ranked first in state; and Unger and Krainik in the 50‑yard dash.
