Cheerleaders Take Second
The Maine West cheerleaders took second in the state of Illinois at the Midwest Invitational Cheerleading Tournament on Mar. 27.
What made that showing even more impressive was the fact that the squad that took second was not the regular varsity group but a volunteer squad made up of six sophomores, five juniors, and senior captain Carol Jacobsen.
Along with Carol, Jill Heiden, Linda Jacobsen, Diane Buckles, Gayle Gryzbieniak, Donna Soranno, Maureen Mukai, Kathy Kennedy, Jean Gruber, Barb Lofgren, Gail Herr, and Donna Watson were judged on five cheers, mounts, personality, sideline cheers, and jumps.

Jill Heiden also won an individual award for her performance. The competition was held on the campus of Illinois State University in Bloomington, Illinois.
The cheerleaders will also be holding their tryouts for next year's squads during this month. Tryouts for the sophomore squad will be held this week, while the varsity tryouts start next week.
All girls are invited to attend the clinic sessions that will be held Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of each week. The actual tryout will be held on Thursdays of each respective week.
