Music Dept. To Present
Annual Spring Concert
Mr. Francis Vaupel, orchestra director, has announced this Friday as the date for a concert to be given in the auditorium by the Concert Orchestra. The time will be 8p.m., and tickets will be available at $1 for adults and $.75 for children.
The program will consist of many numbers: Symphony No. 8 in B Minor" by Franz Schubert will be included along with "Mighty Fortress" by Vaclav Nehlybel, Tales from the Vienna Woods' by Johann Strauss, 'Typewriter" by Leroy Anderson, and "La Bamba de Verecruz' by Terig Tucci.
They will also be performing a medley from South Pacific by Rodgers and Hammerstein, Music Man by Meridith Wilson, and "Toccata" by Gerolami Frescolbaldi.
Mr. Edward Ayola will direct the "Toccata" as the guest conductor. Mr. Ayola, a graduate of the University of Tulsa, is currently teaching in Lombard. He performed in the Tulsa Symphony for several years and was a tuba player and assistant conductor of General MacArthur's staff band in Tokyo during the Korean War.
Mr. Vaupel has directed the Concert, Intermediate, and Beginning Orchestras for five years, here at Maine West. He said, "The concert is quite demanding in both length and the caliber of the music being performed. If we are able to overcome these two problems, it will be an indication of the substantial growth of the orchestra during the course of the school year."
