March of Dimes To
Sponsor Walkathon
Anyone interested in fighting birth defects should join the National Foundation‑March of Dimes in their sixth annual Northwest Suburban Walkathon. The walkers will meet at Prospect High School, 801 W. Kensington, Mt. Prospect, at 8:30a.m. on Sunday, May 16.

Over two hundred thousand babies are born in the United States every year with some sort of birth defect. Every hour 25 babies are born either deaf, diabetic, mentally retarded, or defective in any one of a hundred different ways.
The walk should be fun for everyone involved. The 17‑mile route will have water and restroom facilities at every checkpoint. Free refreshments from Burger King and other snacks will be served to all Walkathon participants. At the conclusion of the walk, the rock group Sahara will give a two‑hour concert. The two walkers who will collect the most money will each be given a 10‑speed bicycle.

Walkathon packets are available in the Student Council office. For further information concerning the March of Dimes Walkathon, see Mr. Ervin Geisler, Student Council adviser.
