Kennedy, Wyatt Selected For
DAR-SAR Award
Jane Wyatt '76 and Dave Kennedy '76 were selected by the Senior Class and faculty as the two students who exhibit the best qualities of a good citizen.
The judgments were based on the following qualities: dependability, truthfulness, honesty, punctuality, service, cooperation, helpfulness, responsibility, leadership, personality, self‑control, initiative, and unselfish loyalty to the American ideal.
The aim of the Daughters of American Revolution and the Sons of the American Revolution, who sponsor this project, is to pay tribute to youths who exhibit the qualities which are desirable in a good citizen.
The students of the Senior Class were asked to select six students, three boys and three girls, whom they thought were best qualified in showing good citizenship. Of these six students, the faculty was asked to select one from each group.
Jane's name was sent to the chapter chairman of the DAR of the district. Included with her name was a brief questionnaire which she had to fill out. About being chosen, Jane said, "I was excited and surprised that I had won. It's really a great honor because only one student in Maine West received the DAR award."
When Dave was asked how he felt about being chosen for the SAR award, he replied, "I'm really honored that I was considered for such a worthwhile award. It's one of the greatest honors I've ever received."
The good citizens of Maine West will receive a pin and a certificate of award in the spring at the Senior Honors Assembly.
A savings bond will go to the winner of each of the seven DAR divisions. The winners of the DAR state's Good Citizen Award will receive a government bond. The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution will present a scholarship to the National Good Citizen.
This year DAR was open to both boys and girls. It just so happens that three girls were selected. They were Jane Wyatt '76, Carol Kale '76, and Carol Jacobson '76. The four boys nominated for the SAR award were Dave Kennedy '76, Dave Beedy '76, Andy Wild '76, and Glen Watson '76. There was a tie and four boys were on the ballot.
