Maine West To Host Youth Symphony
The Northwest Youth Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Mr. James Middleton, is holding its spring concert at Maine West this Sunday, May 2, at 8 p.m.

Maine West students participating in the concert are first violinist Mike Bock '79, oboe player Dave Fischer '78, flute player Carol '78, cellist John Pascolini '77, and violist Denise Pytlik '78. Students from Arlington Heights, Barrington, Buffalo Grove, Des Plaines, Elk Grove Village, Hoffman Estates, Mount Prospect, Palatine, Schaumburg, and Wasco comprise more than 70 other musicians in the group.

The concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium. Ticket prices are $1.75 for adults, $1 for students, and $.50 for children, and may be purchased at the door or from NYSO members.

Among the selections being performed in the concert are "The Crown Imperial" by William Walton, "Kanon for Strings" by Johann F. Paschelbel, "Tales from the Vienna Woods" by Johann Strauss, and the "Academic Festival Overture" by Johann Sebastian Bach.
Since its organization four years ago, the NYSO has played concerts in several communities in the Chicago area, as well as several performances at the University of Illinois in Urbana. The students in the orchestra, who are chosen by audition every September, rehearse three hours a week in preparation for these performances. Anyone who wishes to participate in the orchestra should contact Mr. Middleton, 640‑0944.

"I think that the improvement of the orchestra this year has been outstanding," commented Mr. Middleton. "This is the best orchestra that we have ever had. If the kids remain as consistent as they have been all season, this last concert should be even more successful than ever." Mr. Middleton, who has a master's degree from Vander Cook College of Music, organized the Northwest Youth Symphony four years ago. Besides directing the Youth Symphony, he teaches music in the Community Consolidated School District 59 of Elk Grove and performs as a cellist in several community orchestras.
