Warriors Defeat Glenbrook North 10‑3
Maine West's varsity baseball team has had its ups and downs so far this season. In recent play the Warriors have won 2 games, tied 1 game, and lost 1 game.

On Apr. 12 the varsity squad shelled Glenbrook North, winning 10-3. Two days later the Warriors fell to the defending state champion, Niles West in a 7-4 contest. Batting well for Maine West were Glen Watson with 1 hit, Bob Zuccarrini with 2, and Rob Earhart with 2. Scoring runs were Rick Sandri, Bob Anderson, Watson, and Earhart. Buddy Doroskin was the losing pitcher with 8 strike outs and 7 walks, while giving up only 4 hits.

On Apr. 19 the varsity diamond men battled Glenbrook South to a 2-2 stalemate, which is to be continued at a later date. Watson played well, driving in both runs. Meanwhile, back on the mound, Earhart showed exceptional control, with 11 strike outs and only 1 walk.

On Apr. 22 the Warriors came up with 2-0 shutout against Maine East, behind the pitching of Doroskin. Watson and Tim Platek scored runs for Maine West.
Recently, Maine West Varsity Coach Al Carstens was asked about his team's performance in the past few games. He had this to say: "We've been making contact and hitting the ball hard, but straight at the opposing team's fielders. If we keep making contact, those fly outs and ground outs should start turning into hits."

All of the work that Coach Don Olson's sophomore team has been doing on fundamentals is paying off. The team now shows a record of 7-0 with recent wins over Niles West, 7-2, and Glenbrook South, 6-0.

In recent action on the freshman level, the "A" team lost 3-0 to Glenbrook South, while the "B" team won 14-3 against Glenbrook South. This afternoon at 4:14, the varsity Warriors will take on Glenbrook North away. The remainder of the season's games are all conference games and should be important ones for Maine West.
