Out of School Sports, Deserve Chance
By SUE SZILAGYI
Schools have a wide variety of extracurricular sports for both female and male. It seems that there is just about every competitive sport one could think of available in schools today. However, this conclusion is simply not true. Many students participate in sports which are not available in schools today.
For instance, many students are involved in equestrian sports, others in hockey, and others in figure or speed skating. The fact that these students are involved in sports outside of school sports sometimes is not an advantage but rather a disadvantage.
Practices may be during school hours, which causes tension between a student and a teacher. However, if these students were involved in school sports, concessions are made easier for these students. This is unfair to the students involved in "outside" sports.
Many times competitions or meets are not after school or on weekends for "outside" sports. Rather these competitions or meets are during school. Teachers and school staffs should show an understanding as well as the students in such situations.
The best solution for such a problem is that the school should institute a program for such students that would give allowance for "outside" sports, while maintaining classes. It is about time that "outside" sports were given a fair shake.
