The U.S. History Honor Exam will be held on Saturday, May 22. This exam will determine the top Maine West U.S. history scholar.
Of those taking the test, the top 30 to 35 students will become members of the Maine West Historical Society. The top 10 will receive D.A.R. certificates of meritorious achievement, and the top five will take an essay exam to certify the U.S. history honor scholar.
Besides the certificates, the Honor Scholar will receive a U.S. savings bond and a medal and will have his name inscribed on a bronze plaque in the L.R.C.
The presentation ceremony will be held June 3 at 3:30 p.m. in the auditorium. Refreshments will later be served.
Another written social studies exam was given to students at Maine West on Apr. 22. Students receiving the highest scores competed in an oral exam given on Apr. 29. The first place winner of this exam was Michael Laughlin '76. His prize was $200 toward educational purposes. The second place winner was Charles Gassman '76.
