May Music Festival To Be Held
Come, listen, and enjoy the sounds of spring at the May Music Festival. The concert will be held on May 21 at 8 p.m. in the Herman Rider Gymnasium. All the instrumental and vocal groups will be featured.
The district's junior high music departments will have their students participate in several numbers combined with the high school students. Some of these numbers are "Soft Rain" and the "George M. Cohan Fantasy." They will also harmonize in the finale.
The Concert Choir will entertain the audience with the pieces "Erie Canal" and "The Creation." The "Festive Overture' by Dmitri Shostakovitch will be performed by the Concert Band, and the Concert Orchestra will present "Tales from the Vienna Woods."
Recently, Solo and Ensemble Night was held at Maine West. The purpose was to choose the superior musician in the Music Department. Tom Fischer '76 won this honor by playing 'Primiere Rhapsody" on the clarinet, accompanied by Mrs. Grace Garret. He will be performing as a soloist in the festival.
The program will last about an hour, and there is no admission charge. "The students have worked many hours in preparation for this concert, and I'm sure the audience will enjoy the selections," commented Mr. Donald Lord, choir director.
