Senior Week
Class of '76 Has Busy Schedule
As the school year draws to a close, the Class of '76 prepares for its final days of high school.
Senior Week will be the week of May 24. Tuesday, May 25, has been designated as T‑shirt day, and Wednesday is Fifties Day. Late arrival day has been scheduled for May 27 which stipulates that all seniors must be in their classes by third period. Friday, the last day of Senior Week, will start three days of final examinations, May 28, June 1, and June 2. Monday, May 31, Memorial Day, is a day off for the entire school.
All week long seniors have been working on those infamous senior superlatives. All of the "most likely to . . . and "best. . ." winners will be announced at the Senior Dessert, to be held on Wednesday, June 2, at 7 p.m. in the cafeteria.
The following day, June 3, begins marching practice for Commencement. This also is the day that caps and gowns for graduation night and Baccalaureate will be picked up. Tickets for both will be distributed, provided the student has met all financial obligations to the school. A $.25 fee will be charged for the red, white, and blue tassle that was voted on by the class.
Once all of this is out of the way, the seniors are really busy on Friday, June 4. In the morning at 8 a.m. the Honors Assembly will be the scene of various deserving future‑grads receiving numerous academic, athletic, and other honors. The Senior Edition of the Westerner will be distributed to seniors in the outer lobby after the assembly.
At 8:30 p.m. that same evening the Sheraton‑Chicago Hotel on Michigan Avenue will host the 1976 Senior Prom, "Till We Meet Again.' The music will be provided by the group Windjammers. Tickets for the Prom are $4 per couple and will be on sale in the bookstore through May 28. One of each couple must be a member of the Senior Class to attend the Prom.
With little time for rest, the Baccalaureate will take place on Sunday afternoon, June 6. It gets underway at 3 p.m., and all seniors are given three tickets for this.
Finally, it all winds up with that last march in the Herman L. Rider Memorial Gymnasium on graduation night, June 10. Commencement begins at 7 p.m., and, as with Baccalaureate, all seniors are given three tickets. Additional tickets may be obtained while they last, by means of a phone call to the deans' office by a parent requesting additional tickets.
