Hold Award Nights
The Maine West Music Boosters and the Des Plaines Kiwanis Club along with the Maine West Music Department are sponsoring the annual music awards to be held on May 26 at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium.
The awards that will be given fall into three basic categories: Sousa, National, and Orchestra and National Chorus. The Sousa Award is being given to a band member who is elected by his classmates as being the most outstanding performer. Also elected by their classmates are the National Orchestra and National Choral awards going to the person who is the best performer along with working hard to better the organization.
An award that is being given by the faculty to the best musician from the band, orchestra, and chorus is the Arion award. There will be a separate award for each of the bands, orchestras, and choruses. There will also be awards for seniors who have been in the band, orchestra, or chorus for four years. This award is being given by the Des Plaines Kiwanis Club, and the winners will receive a gold‑filled service pin.
The annual Business Awards Night will be held on May 25 at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium. These awards are given out each year to the top students in business courses at Maine West.
Awards are given in such courses such as typing, shorthand, business law, and data processing.
Coffee and refreshments will be served in the cafeteria after the awards ceremony.
