Mr. Harold Connell, electronics and woodworking teacher, will receive an award from Bell and Howell Schools. Mr. Connell is receiving the award for his work in electronics.
Bell and Howell presents the award to any teacher in the area who has been recommended by his principal and department chairman. Mr. Connell was recommended by Mr. James Coburn, Maine West principal, and Mr. Robert Cochrane, Industrial Education Department chairman. Mr. Connell explained that the recipient must also have a need for the award.
The award is a fellowship. It entitles Mr. Connell to free schooling at the Bell and Howell Institute, 3300 North Campbell Street, Chicago. The fellowship is worth about $1,200 to $1,400.
Mr. Connell said that he will meet with school officials later this month to sign up for the classes he will take. He said he will take courses in electronics and math. Mr. Connell will go to school during July and August this year, as well as next year.
Mr. Connell, who has been teaching here for nine years, is the first teacher at Maine West to receive such an award.
