Nancy Proves To Be Winning Pitcher
The Maine West girls' softball team is off to a great start. One of the big reasons is pitcher Nancy Habetler.
Nancy is this week's outstanding sports person in Warrior sports. Not only has Nancy found herself at the plate, she ranks as one of the top pitchers in the Central Suburban League South Conference.
In a recent game against Maine East the team won 17 to 1. Nancy was the winning pitcher and had a tremendous day at the plate going 3 for 3. On Apr. 22 the Warriors won a decisive victory over the Glenbrook South Titans 18 to 5. Again Nancy was the pitcher of record and proceeded to hit the cover off the ball.
On Apr. 20 the Warriors defeated Maine North 19 to 3. Who else but Nancy Habetler would win the game on the mound and also have a tremendous record at the plate. In that contest Nancy struck out six and gave up only five hits.
Coach Karen Kenyon believes that Nancy is one of the fastest and most accurate pitchers she has seen for some time. The best thing about that for Nancy, as well as the rest of the team, is that she has another year to improve herself in the CSL South.
With four conference games remaining, and Districts, Nancy could prove to be the deciding edge in a state championship.
