West Trackmen Win At Invitationals
The Maine West varsity track team continued their winning ways with victories at the Prospect Invitational and the Titan Invitational.

On Friday. May 7. at Prospect High School, the Warriors combined four first places with three second places to finish nine points ahead of LaGrange. Outstanding performers for Maine West were Howie Blietz, Brian Tolan, Greg Koeller, and Jeff Brydges in the two‑mile relay; Mike Klebe in both the high jump and the triple jump; Jim Winiecki in the pole vault: Scott Unger in the 100‑yard dash; and Paul Lippold in the low hurdles.

Last Saturday the Warriors traveled to Glenbrook South where they came away with an embarrassingly easy victory. They finished the meet with 208 points. This was 144 points ahead of second place Providence. West captured a remarkable 13 individual first places.
Leading the way for the Warriors was Scott Unger in both the 100‑yard dash and the 440. Mike Klebe took first in the high jump (6' 2") and the triple jump (43' 6"). Jeff Brydges was top man in the 880‑yard run and the mile (4:28). Other winners for West were Joe Genualdi in the pole vault (13'), Tony Krainik in the 220 (21.8), Joe Farrell in the low hurdles (40:8), Paul Lippold in the high hurdles (15:0), and Brian Tolan in the two mile (9:36). The mile and two‑mile relay teams were also victorious.

Jim Winiecki placed second in the pole vault, and he tied for first in the long jump (20' 4 3/4''). Bob Pawelko finished second in the two‑mile run.

This is only the second time in Illinois high school track history that a team has scored over 200 points in a meet.

The Warriors will travel to Glenbrook North tomorrow for the conference meet. Maine West has been conference champ for the past years and is expected to do it again.
