VOL. XVII, NO. 14
Summer School
Not To Be Reimbursed
Students wishing to attend summer school this summer should register as soon as possible. At the present time, the Illinois Office of Education and the governor of Illinois have indicated that available state funds for education will be spent primarily for mandated programs. Since summer school is not a mandated program, it appears that state funds for summer school will not be approved by the state legislature or the governor.
Therefore, Maine West will have to charge tuition for the 1976 summer school sessions. The 1976 summer school tuition rate for non‑laboratory courses will be $60 per credit, including a $4 non‑refundable registration fee and a $40 per half credit, including a $2 non‑refundable registration fee. The only class not included in this is driver's education, but it does include a $4 non‑refundable registration fee.
Students who have already registered at one of the four high schools should pay the tuition fee as soon as possible to complete their registration. Tuition may be paid in two installments if necessary.
Students already registered who choose not to attend the 1976 summer school session must contact their counselor regarding a refund of their registration fee.
The 1976 summer school session starts June 14 and ends July 2, July 9, July 23, or July 29. This depends if the course is three, four, six, or seven weeks long.
Courses will be offered in art (Art I, photography); business (general business, personal typing, Typing I); English (drama, English I, English II, English III, English IVW); home economics (clothing); industrial education (electronics, graphic communications, mechanical drawing, metals, power mechanics, wood shop); mathematics (computer science, fundamentals of math, Math I, sophomore algebra); music (band‑intermediate); physical education (make‑up); science (aerospace, Biology I, earth science, physical science); social science (government, history of the nonwestern world, U.S. history, history of the western world); and co‑operative education.
Several sports will also be offered. They include baseball, basketball, cross country, football conditioning, soccer, wrestling, gymnastics (boys and girls), acrobatic dance, and volleyball.
Mr. Eldon Burk, director of summer school, said that if there is insufficient enrollment in a course, then it will not be offered.
