Dr. Norman Ladd Becomes
Mathematics Celebrity
Dr. Norman Ladd was invited to Washington, D.C. July 31 by the National Science Foundation to attend a conference for the Educational Implications of Hand Held Calculators. The NSF called the conference to discuss the "state of art" to determine whether a national policy is needed.

Dr. Ladd was invited by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics to speak at the Honolulu, Hawaii, conference Aug. 19-23. Dr. Ladd's topic was calculator utilization at the secondary level.
Part of the talk was taken from Dr. Ladd's new book on calculator use in Algebra I. The new book will be on 32 calculator lessons and will be published in paperback workbook form.

He has been invited to speak at the Annual Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics Convention. This convention is to be held at Northern Illinois University, DeKalb, Nov. 14‑15.

Many people have their own opinions on calculator use. Dr. Ladd stated, "If used correctly, it can be a positive force in education."
