Four Seniors Named
Merit Semi-Finalists
Four seniors have been commended by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. The semi‑finalists were notified Wednesday, Sept. 17, 1975, about their achievements and will now compete for scholarships.

Robin Downing, Bob Peterson, Roy Hodges, and Chuck Gassman are part of 15,000 semifinalists who are competing for a total of 3,800 scholarships.

These four seniors were selected from more than one million students who took the PSAT/NMSQT exam last fall. In order to qualify as a National Merit semi‑finalist these students ranked in the top five per cent of the students who took the PSAT/NMSQT exam in the nation.
The semi‑finalists will now be graded on their Standard Achievement Test (SAT) and their academic grades. The Standard Achievement Test is an entrance exam for state colleges and some private universities. The students have received long forms which are to be completed and mailed back giving a complete summary about their personal lives and their goals.

As soon as all the required information is sent back, their information will be summarized; and the top 3,800 students will be awarded scholarships in the spring. The scholarships will vary in value up to $1,500 and will be applicable to the school of their choice. The sponsors of the funds include corporations, foundations, colleges, trade unions, and professional associations.
