Yearbook Sales
Legend sales will take place Monday, Oct. 20, through Friday, Oct. 24. They will be sold in the cafeteria during all lunch periods. The price is $6 paid in full of $3.50 now and $3 in the spring. Students not ordering a yearbook now will not be able to purchase one in the spring.
PSAT/NMSQT Coming
The PSAT/NMSQT (Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) is designed for juniors who want to evaluate their academic strengths and weaknesses. It also lets them know how they'll perform on the SAT. If a student does well on the test, it may qualify him to become a National Merit Scholar, which is the highest scholastic honor. The test consists of two parts - mathematics and verbal. Students who want to take the test must register in the bookstore by Friday, Oct. 17. The fee is $2.50.
Traffic Safety Essay Contest
The tenth annual Traffic Safety Essay Contest, sponsored by the Illinois Editors' Traffic Safety Seminar, is open to all Maine West seniors wishing to compete. Ten $500 Chicago Motor Club scholarships will be awarded to the winners, five boys and five girls. Twenty‑five runners‑up each get a $25 savings bond. This year's topic is "High School Driver Education: What has it done for me?" The essay must be written in 500 words and must be submitted by December 31 to the Seminar Headquarters, 66 E. South Water St., Chicago, Ill. 60601. Additional entry blanks are available by writing the Seminar Headquarters. Final judging will be done by University of Illinois Educators and winners will be announced May 14, 1976, at the annual Seminar meeting in Peoria.
