Sports Policy Changes
By SUE SZILAGYI
This year the Westerner will follow a new policy of the placement of sport stories on the sports page. In my opinion, the paper helps to promote school spirit among the students. Previously the paper has placed certain sport stories in regular spots issue after issue.
In an effort to promote more school spirit the paper will now have a new policy of the placement of sport stories, the paper will now try to play up winning teams and play down the losses. There will also be other factors involved in story placement: the popularity of the sport and importance of certain events.
I believe this will eliminate sexual discrimination and team discrimination. From now on the placement of stories will have to be earned. Also the length of the stories will be determined by these factors. Hopefully by playing up wins, school spirit will will be increased. As the line goes, "everybody loves a winner."
Viewpoint will also be published. I invite any comments or questions from readers so we can hear all sides of the story. Any persons who wish to sound off their views on sports may be featured in Viewpoint. If you are interested, please contact Mr. George Walker or the sports editor in R‑210.
