Excitement Comes To Science Club
Are you a science nut, a nature freak, or just someone who really likes to have a lot of fun? Then maybe Science Club was made for you!
Science Club, sponsored by Mr. Charles McCarter and Mr. Lawrence Rychlowski, has already been involved with a number of activities. They started the year off with a combination picnic and hiking trip, which took place on Sept. 28 at the Northwestern University woods, "Everyone had a great time!" according to Carolyn Matkovic '77, president. Other officers are Beth Reinke '77, vice‑president, Chris Cwiakala '77, secretary‑treasurer.
For the opening kick of the Homecoming game, Science Club set off 500 blue and gold balloons, with a message tagged to various ones.
The message said that the balloons were launched at the Maine West Homecoming game and to please report your finding to the Maine West Science Club.
The club has received many responses from people in Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio. One letter went: "Your balloons, 13 blue and 21 yellow came down at 12:15 p.m. on Oct. 4, about a quarter of a mile west of St. Paris, Ohio, in a vacant lot along State Route 36. My school is Milton Union High where I'm a 14‑year‑old freshman, The local paper has printed a story with a picture of me holding the balloons, Sincerely, Sheila Moles."
The club is planning a hayride for Halloween and to round up their activities for the fall are making terrariums. Carolyn commented, "Come and join the fun! New members are welcome!"
