School Pride Needs Boost
By SUE SZILAGYI

Tonight is MW's last home football game of the season. Of course, the crowds will gather to cheer our fighting Warriors on to victory, or will they? Do the crowds really gather to support the team or for the social life during the game? Have you ever stopped to ask your friend the score at the end of the game? Did your friend know? Can you remember who made touchdowns for our team? Most people don't, yet the players who scored and the plays are announced during the game.

Why do people attend the games if they don't watch? Most are up walking around in the stands, talking to their friends, yelling and screaming. Just think if all that energy would go to school spirit. Believe it or not, sometimes the way the team plays depends on you. Players need the support of the school and encouragement to win. Obviously these spectators are discourteous to those who really want to watch the game and to the team.
Tonight will be the last home football game for the rest of the season. Perhaps just this one home game, the spectators could help support the team by watching and cheering them on rather than creating diversions from the game.

Some people may call someone who cheers during the game a rah‑rah, but by cheering you are only showing you are proud of your school. Does anyone here at Maine West feel ashamed of our school? Does anyone believe Niles North is a better school than Maine West?

If you attend the game tonight, think about these points, maybe you'll find that courtesy, the game, and showing a little school pride isn't so bad after all.
