VOL. XVII, NO. 3
The fighting Warriors outscored three opponents last week and finished second in the Central Suburban League South conference. This is a repeat performance as the Warriors also finished second last year.
The Warriors defeated the Hawks of Maine South on Oct. 15 by a score of 3 to 0. Goals were scored by Darrin Moore, Greg Koeller, and Dean Carpenter. Moore's goal came midway in first quarter, when he tipped in Koeller's cross shot. Koeller scored on some excellent passing from Matt Serna and Glen Watson as they maneuvered the ball into the wide open. Koeller ripped a shot into the upper corner of the net for the score. Carpenter's score came late in the second quarter, as he beat the Hawk's goalie on a severe angle shot from the left corner. Scott Gibbert and Dean Marrinson collected assists on the play.
On Oct. 17 the Warriors were at home against the Niles North Vikings. The Warriors also banked them by a score of 4 to 0, Goals were produced by Gibbert, Koeller, Felix Garoz, and Jim Winicki. Gibbert's first cord ripper of the year was shot from an incredible distance of 50 yards with the help of the ever present Koeller, whose screen let the ball pop through the goalie's hands and go in for the score. Koeller again scored in this contest on a penalty kick in the second half. Garoz and Winicki both scored from close in beating the Viking goalie low and away.
The Warriors seemed to have two opponents on Saturday as they defeated Glenbrook South on their Homecoming.
Though the wind was the major factor, the Warriors had to worry about the Titans, who fought hard but were down ito 0. Koeller registered the only tally for the Warriors. The score came in the middle of the third quarter when Koeller popped it over the head of the South goalie.
