Maine West To Host
Friendship Festival
"Let's Talk" is the theme for this year's Friendship Festival. The Friendship Festival is designed to bring representatives from local industry to Maine West to tell their stories.
The Friendship Festival is being sponsored by the Des Plaines Chamber of Commerce Industrial Group to promote a better relationship between the people of Des Plaines and its industry. The businesses sponsored at the festival will be there to talk to both students and parents and to answer any questions they may have. This year's festival will be held May 12 through May 14 in the Herman L. Rider Gym.
A contest sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce will be held to develop a symbol for the festival. The object is to design a symbol or logo to express the event and to provide a format that will be used for the next two years.
This contest is not limited to just art students. All students from both Maine West and Maine North may participate. A first place prize of a $50 savings bond will be awarded to the winner at a luncheon, along with a second place prize of a $25 savings bond and a third place prize of a $15 gift certificate.
The competition opened on Nov. 1 for all those interested. Entry blanks and further information can be obtained in the art office or from Mr. George Blanas, art chairman.
Each person may submit as many designs as he wishes however, only one prize will be awarded to one person. The entries will be judged and the winner selected by an appointed board of judges. All entries should be turned in to Mr. Blanas before Dec. 15.
"This contest is very exciting," commented Mr. Blanas. "It is a great opportunity for all students."
