Vanguard Resumes Practice
The Vanguard Drum and Bugle Corps of Des Plaines will return to the competition field this summer with a younger, less experienced corps after a year of inactivity. In 1973, due to the loss of management, the corps had to be diminished.

The corps is now in the process of building a bigger and better unit to regain its national championship status. Rated as one of the top drum corps in the United States the Vanguard has travelled over one million miles in its successful 30‑year history. Being a leader in its field of entertainment, the Vanguard is planning a new and dynamic program for 1976. Terry Bode '78 has hope in the new corps. She was quoted as saying, "The corps is trying to rebuild so we can come back to where we once were."
This year's competitive season included contests throughout the Midwest and East as well as competition in the DCI National Championships where the Vanguard drum ensemble took first place honors. Along with the eastern tour, corps members had the opportunity to visit such places as Niagara Falls and Pittsburgh's famous Kenneywood Amusement Park. Travel and competition are part of the Vanguard. Anyone between the ages of 13 and 21 is eligible to join. Experience is not necessary. A "cadet corps" also exists for boys and girls between the ages of 10 and 13. Call 827-4383 any Thursday or Friday night for information.
