Students Comment About Sports Page
Question: What do you think of our new policy of playing up wins and playing down losses on Page 4?

Mr. Gary Novak - I believe it to be the worst kind of discrimination. A team with a losing record needs the paper's support more than anyone.

Rose Otto '79 - It's good because who wants to know about the bad guys?

Jon Keith '78 - It's good because then the football team doesn't get so embarrassed.

Jamie Minor '79- I think its a good idea. It promotes school spirit and makes the athletes play harder.

Ken Wenz '76 - The policy is atrocious. The best sport should get the biggest column.

Mr. Floyd Raspiller - We do what we think. Let's think about wins.

Donna Shultz '79 - I don't think it's fair, because they all put effort in even if they win or lose.

Darren Moore '77 - I don't think it's fair that one team has more publicity than another, but the winning team should be recognized.

Cindy Miller '76 - I think it's great 'cause the teams that win get a lot of credit.

Nancy Kennedy '79 - I think it's a great idea, but what happens if the page is blank?

Wally Pasternak '78 - I think it's good because if you win it's interesting and if you don't, it's not.
Lee Kuhlman '77 - It's only fair for each sport to have the same recognition.

Jane Mahon '79 - It's good as long as they do it for all the teams.

Tom Klein '76 - All sports should get equal time. The effort that the individual athletes put into their respective sports, win or lose, demands recognition.

Ken Quinn '78 - Yes, because the sophomores always win.

Coach Ron Brown - The performance and quality of the competition should be the determining factor, not the score of the game.

Scott Maxwell '76 - It's bad for the morale of the team if they lose.

Bill Aslan '76 - Wins should be built up because it promotes a winning spirit.

Pat Dent '76 - All teams deserve equal attention in the Westerner.

Nancy Brock '79 - I don't think it's a good idea. They should play up the losses so the athletes will feel bad and they'll hopefully try harder.

Ken Jones '76 - The teams with the most fan support should have the longest article.

Mr. Leslie Jannusch - It's a good idea. I would like to see the winning lower level (frosh, soph.) teams mentioned a little more.
