MW Mixed Chorus III
Will Sing in Chicago
The Maine West Mixed Chorus III class will perform on Wednesday, Dec. 17, at the Uptown Federal Savings Bank in Chicago. The chorus was invited to promote the holiday spirit by singing various Christmas carols to the customers in the banks lobby.
According to Mr. Donald Lord, the director, the chorus will perform formally in their dark blue gowns with silver stoles. "I feel this will give the students experience in front of an audience," said Mr. Lord.
At will be a pleasurable experience because the students will be representing Maine West." The 35‑member chorus will leave around 11 a.m. and plans to spend most of the day at the bank.
Preparations for the annual Christmas Concert have already begun. The concert will be held on Thursday, Dec. 11, beginning at 8 p.m. in the auditorium. Admission will be $.75 for students and $1 for adults. This concert will tentatively include all vocal music students, the Jazz Band, and the Concert Band.
Maine West offers many vocal music courses. There are Mixed Chorus I‑Ill, Concert Choir, and Choraliers. Chorus I‑Ill are half credit, period long classes. Concert Choir is a full credit, period and a half course. Mixed Chorus III, Concert Choir, and Choraliers are selective.
Students are chosen on the basis of grades, musical ability, and aptitude. Choraliers are the top students in vocal music and receive no credit for the course because it is considered an extra curricular activity.
