The varsity golf team fell on some hard times and bad luck in the conference golf meet at the Village Green Country Club on Oct. 20. They finished in last place. Glenbrook North won with 321 strokes, and the other schools in the meet shot exceptionally well offsetting a strong performance by Bill Bucher who shot an 85. Also scoring in the meet were John Minardi with an 87 and George Seletos with an 88. Mike Pardini closed the scoring with an 89. The total score was 349 strokes.
The varsity was 2-5 in conference play with wins over Maine East and Niles East. The varsity will lose Bill Bucher. Mike Pardini, Bill Aslan, and Dave Beedy to graduation but will retain Scott Reed, John Minardi, and George Seletos for next season.
Mike Franklin led the frosh‑soph team to a strong fourth place finish in the same meet. Franklin shot a sparkling 85 and finished sixth out of all the sophomores. The frosh‑soph team finished six strokes out of third place as Niles West squirted into third. Glenbrook South finished first with a 325 total. The Warriors had a 369. Other scorers for the stickmen were Chris Serbin with a 90 and Steve Greuter with a 97. Mike Wielgos closed the scoring with a 98.
The frosh-soph team finished with a 4-3 record and a fourth place finish in the regular season final standings. The wins were over Maine South, Maine East, Niles East, and Niles North. Franklin, Serbin, Greuter, and Wielgos plus Ron Pascente and Joe Dobbeleare will all vie for a position on the varsity squad next year.
