Swimmers Compete At State Meet
The girls' swim team has been competing in their conference, district, and state meets within the past few weeks and has finished with good standings. At the conference meet they finished fourth: at the district meet they finished sixth: and four girls participated in the state meet last weekend.

At the conference meet on Saturday, Oct. 18, the swim team finished fourth with 149 points, only two ahead of fifth place Maine East - the final decision not being rendered until the last event.

Placing in the conference meet were Karen Gafrick, Sue Bowersox, Dawn Ericksen, and Maureen Moeller in the 200‑yard medley relay. Sue Bowersox placed second in the 50‑yard free style and fifth in the 100‑yard breaststroke. Dawn Ericksen finished fourth in the 200‑yard individual medley and fifth in the 100‑yard butterfly.

The 400‑yard free style relay team, consisting of Sue Sullivan, Denise Carstens, Tina Holmes, and Robin Downing, finished fourth in their event.
At the district meet on Saturday, Oct. 25, Maine West placed sixth out of 14 schools. Finishing sixth or above were Karen Gafrick. Sue Bowersox. Dawn Erickson, and Maureen Moeller, fourth in the 200‑yard medley relay. Sue Bowersox took fourth in the 100‑yard breaststroke. Dawn Ericksen took third in the 100‑yard butterfly. Mary Kay Gerhardt took sixth in the one meter diving competition.

The four girls who went to the state meet are Sue Bowersox, Karen Gafrick, Dawn Ericksen, and Maureen Moeller. All four of these girls swam in the 200‑yard medley relay finishing with their best time of the season.

Sue Bowersox competed in the 50‑yard free style and the 100 yard breaststroke. Dawn Ericksen swam in the 200‑yard individual medley and the 100‑yard butterfly.
