Military Offers Opportunities
Some graduates are uneasy about facing life outside school. For those, why not try the services?

The Army, Navy, and Marines have placements for any profession you may choose, which really may not be such a bad deal. They may put you through a college, paying all or most of your expenses. You have only to enlist for a three, four, or six-year term.

At the same time you are paid for going to college, with free room and board. Starting pay for any branch is $344 a month.

If you feel you are not college material, the service also offers an apprenticeship program. This program is equivalent to any civilian program. The apprentice learns the field as well as establishes the standards for military operators and mechanics.

From the Department of Labor, the soldier will be issued a certificate of journeyman status, which will be recognized by industry, management, and union when he is discharged.
The Army, Navy, and Marines can guarantee your choice of occupation. For those who enter• the service with no set goal in mind, another test similar to the entrance exam may be taken. It will help place you in a field you'll enjoy.

For the traveling buffs, the Navy has always been known for adventure in foreign seas. The Army and Marines transfer to posts overseas.

Girls, remember, the U.S. government is an equal opportunity employer. There have been several girls from the Maine schools who have enlisted and enjoy the benefits of the Army. Now there are 70,000 job openings for women in the Army. These jobs do not and will not entail combat duty.

For those students who are interested, recruiters from each branch of the service visit Maine West once a month. See Mr. James Killam, career counselor, or listen during the morning bulletin for the dates and times they will be visiting; or visit the Recruiting Center, 800 Lee Street, Des Plaines.
