Vacation Brightens MW Outlook
Drives for the Needy
The Canned Food Drive and Penny Drive, sponsored by Student Council, have ended as of today. All food and money collected will go to needy people in Des Plaines during the Thanksgiving Holiday.
Christmas Concert
The annual Christmas Concert will be held on Thursday, Dec. 1,1, at 8 p.m. in the Maine West auditorium. Included in the program will be Mixed Chorus, Concert Choir, Concert Band, and Jazz Band. Admission will be $.75 for students and $1 for adults. Everyone is cordially invited to attend.
Twelve Students Commended
Twelve Maine West students have received letters of commendation from the National Merit Scholarship Organization. The letters congratulated the students on their sharp performance on the NMSQT (National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test), which they took last year.
The 12 students are Cindy Arrigo, '75 graduate, and seniors Joan Delaet, Thomas Fischer, Richard LaSota, Sharon McAndrews, Eric Moberg, Scott Peckenpaugh, Daniel Pocius, Carlos Ramillo, Sandra Scheffel, Jean Schillmoeller, and Sherri Stanton.
ACT Is Coming
The next test date for the ACT (American College Test) is Dec. 13. Juniors or seniors planning to go to college should take this test. The ACT is also useful in getting a scholarship. The fee is $7.50, and students can register in the bookstore. Additional information may be obtained from the guidance office.
Field Trip for Govt. Classes
Government classes are going on a field trip. On Wednesday, Dec. 17, they will visit the Criminal Court and the Cook County Jail with Mr. William Kiddle, teacher of government. The trip will cover the jail and its operation, narcotics courts, and the criminal court of Judge Strayhorn. They'll be eating lunch at the jury house since this is an all‑day field trip.
Half‑Day Off
The next Teacher Institute will be on Thursday, Dec. 4. It will be a half‑day, and students will have the afternoon off.
Thanksgiving Vacation
Thanksgiving vacation starts today, after school, and will end Monday, Dec. 1, at 8 am. That's an extra two days off - Thursday and Friday.
Winter Production
Tryouts for this year's winter production, The Day Thoreau Spent in Jail will begin next week at 3:30p.m. in L‑101.
Musical
Oklahoma will be the school's musical production this year. It will be performed on Mar. 18 through 21.
