Sue Noftz Chooses Army
Electronics Career
By KAREN NEBGEN
Have you ever thought of joining the army, or ever wondered what kind of person does? Well, here's a graduate from Maine West who has volunteered her services in the U.S. Army.
Susan Noftz, a senior from last year, has enlisted in the army's delayed entry program. She is a representative of the majority of women seeking enlistment.
She chose the electronics field as her guaranteed enlistment program and will take her basic training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, before going on to electronics training.
Susan enlisted in the Army's delayed entry program June 10 and will go on active duty Dec. 2.
Ms. Noftz says, "One of the main reasons for joining the Army is the fact that we get treated equal to our male counterparts."
Susan was very active while attending Maine West. She was on the honor roll five times. She received three art awards and two science awards. She also became a National Thespian member for life.
After high school Ms. Noftz applied and was accepted at Loyola and Purdue Universities.
She then applied for an Army Reserve Officer Training Corps scholarship; but because of stiff competition, she was not selected. Here she stumbled across an educational program called Project Ahead, which allows a soldier to become a part‑time student while still getting full pay.
