VOL. XVII, NO. 6
DECEMBER 19, 1975
Title IX Enforces Law
Anti‑sex‑discrimination laws that went into effect July 21 of this year are now reaching into the halls of the four Maine high schools. A coordinator for District 207 has been named to study policies in our schools and carry out investigations for any complaints of discrimination because of sex.

Dr. Michael Myers, assistant superintendent of instruction for District 207, has been named by Dr. Richard Short, superintendent, as coordinator for implementing provisions of Title IX of the educational amendments of 1972.
This law provides that "No person in the United States shall on the basis of sex be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any educational program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance." All high schools and colleges must comply with the law by July 21, 1978, and during the period of adjustment must provide comparable instruction for any classes (such as gym) that are held separately.
