VOL. XVII, NO. 6
By ALICE BARTZ
Some faces cover all emotions from deep inside the heart.
Expressions on them hide the feelings from the very start.
Did you know I cared for you when you first performed your song?
Although I was so shy back then, my feelings were quite strong.
I've seen all plays you've acted in; the songs you sang I heard.
Though I'd like to talk to you, I'm too shy to say a word.
I saw you once again last night, along with all the rest.
Your acting style and singing voice were both, by far, the best.
I saw the spotlight hit the stage and cheered when you appeared.
But still you did not notice me, so far and yet so near.
You sing and act for me alone; this seems to be so true.
And yet the others feel the same; that's why I am so blue.
You worked so hard to learn to sing. Your voice has won you fame.
And now you are right at the top; we all have heard your name.
You know you're good, but you have never bragged about that fact.
For you are kind, and that's because of thoughtfulness and tact.
To stop your fears and share your dreams, that's what I hunger for.
To have a real friend in you, I cannot hope for more.
