VOL. XVII, NO. 6
Lunchroom Rumpus Causes Problems
The lunch period hours are meant specifically for doing just that - eating lunch. It seems that this isn't enough for some students, though, who are creating activities of their own.
Although the yelling and pounding on tables seems permissible, as far as becoming harmful, these pranks tend to lead to the setting of tables to fall when touched. Throwing such items as dishes or silverware from one table to the next can strike a possibly unwary student who could be seriously injured.
Continuation of these pranks can only lead to stricter supervision in the lunchroom or even assigned seating. This may seem rash, but things are becoming uncontrollable for the faculty members as well as the deans.
Most faculty members realize that this may be the only time you can see your friends, but carrying your joy too far can only lead to a great deal of trouble.
Cheering for the simple reason that someone accidentally or purposely drops a plate is put up with by teachers. Exercising your voices isn't harmful, but some students are stretching traditions to the limit.
The students at Maine West high school have always upheld great pride in their ways. Leaving behind traditions showed their loyal feeling toward the school. If we all try to keep our conversations down to a dull roar and caution ourselves when attempting to throw something, maybe when we return from our vacations, the faculty will have to speak quieter instead of complaining about lunchroom noises disturbing their classes.
