O. O. Places At Zion
The Office Occupations Area Conference was held Nov. 21 and Nov. 22 at Waukegan West High School. The 16 students, along with Mr. William Breitzke, office occupations coordinator, stayed at the Illinois Beach State Park Lodge, in Zion, Illinois.

The contest tested the skills of office occupations students in the Northeastern counties of Illinois. The contest had nine different fields of competition: typing, spelling, shorthand, business math, machine transcription, job interviews, key punch, calculator, and accounting.
The winners in some of these events were all seniors: Pat Carey, first place in spelling; Dian Frankowski, first place in shorthand; Kathy Mikos, first place in machine transcription and second place in typing; Caren Zijewski, first place in typing.

Maine West competed with five other schools: Maine South, Maine North, Maine East, Niles East, and Evanston. Maine West took four out of the nine first place trophies given.

The participation in the contest was on a volunteer basis; anyone could go; and everyone who did go participated in at least one event.
