Mr. Donald Magsamen Mourned Here
Mr. Donald Magsamen, Maine West Social Science teacher for 14 years, died suddenly Wednesday, Dec. 10, of cancer in Northwest Community Hospital, Arlington Heights, after a short illness. Funeral services were held at Saint Raymond's Catholic Church in Mt. Prospect on Friday, and Mr. Magsamen was buried at All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines.

Surviving Mr. Magsamen are his wife Peggy and their six children. His brother, Mr. Carl Magsamen, teaches at Maine South. Both brothers graduated from Eastern Illinois University with bachelor's and master's degrees in Education.

Mr. Eric Edstrom, Social Science Department chairman, noted that Mr. Magsamen was instrumental in introducing geography materials into high schools. He began the project for those students with trouble in the other Social Science areas.

Mr. Edstrom called him a very quiet, unassuming man of few words.' He stressed that Mr. Magsamen was well liked among his students as well as other members of the faculty.
Mr. James Coburn, principal, called him "the gentle type of man people felt comfortable with. He will be a hard man to replace."

This season was the first since 1961 that Mr. Magsamen did not coach football at Maine West. During his 14 years here, he coached all levels of football.
