Dec. 25 Comes Quickly
By KERRY SKORA

Once again, Americans celebrate Christmas on Dec. 25. Most likely, families will celebrate with Christmas trees, lights, caroling and big dinners. Did you ever wonder what families around the world are doing? Well ....

Germany is very big on Christmas, and preparation begins weeks ahead. The kids receive their gifts from the Christkind, dressed in a white robe, wearing a golden crown and golden wings.

The Dutch are big on St. Nick. St. Nicholas, wearing a bishop's uniform, comes on a white horse with Black Peter at his side.
Black Peter is Nick's assistant and the devil, himself. They give candy to those who are good and nothing to the bad ones.

Christmas in Italy is celebrated for three weeks. The ones that have a presepo (manger) center their Christmas around it. Children sing Christmas carols from house to house and gifts are brought by the Christ Child.

As you can see, Christmas does call for a celebration. But it's good not to forget - Christmas is the birthday of Jesus, God's gift to mankind.
