Girls' Volleyball Heading Downstate

The Maine West girls' volleyball team is heading for a downstate victory. This year's spikers are exceptionally good with a 5-0 record in the conference.

The chances of the team going downstate is exceptionally good. The team is 5-0 in conference games and 9-1 in non-conference games. The only game they had lost was to New Trier East, the state champions last year.

Last Saturday, Maine West hosted an invitational. There were eight schools from the conference that came to Maine West and had a big play day. Each of the eight teams played three matches, and Maine West was the only team that was undefeated in the three matches played.

The spikers even defeated New Trier East. The girls had gained good experience when using their strategy against tough teams.

The highlight of the spikers' season was the defeat of Maine South in a very close match. Three games were played. Maine South won the first game by a margin of 20-4. Maine West won the second game 20-11. The third game was very close, but Maine West pulled through with a 22-20 victory. Coach Royleen Tipton said, "All the victories have been a result of excellent effort by every member of the team."
