Ski Club Benefits MW Students
Skiing has been a very popular winter sports, and the Maine West Ski Club helps those students who are interested. The Ski Club sponsors several trips throughout the season. The next trip will be to Boyne Highlands, the weekend of Jan. 23.
The bus will leave Des Plaines in the afternoon and will return to Maine West, Sunday, Jan. 25. The total cost of the trip is $76, and reservations will be made for the first 40 students who sign up. Students must have their own equipment for the Boyne Highlands trip. The supervisors are Mr. Wayne Ambrose, Mr. Roger Osborne, Mr. Anton Soucek and Ms. Elizabeth Reed.
The next trips will be on Friday, Jan. 30, to Alpine; Friday, Feb. 6, to Wilmot; Wednesday, Feb. 11, to Alpine; and Friday, Feb. 13, to Wilmot. Ski trips for later dates will be announced. The standard cost of each trip includes bus fare, rentals, and lift tickets.
The main purpose of the Ski Club, according to Mr. Ambrose, faculty adviser, is to teach prospective skiers to ski and enjoy it. Any student not in the club and wishing to learn to ski before joining may go on a trip as a guest of the club. The fee to join now is $5.
Besides Mr. Ambrose, Mr. Osborne and Mr. Soucek are also faculty members affiliated with Ski Club. The officers are Kris Brogmus '76, Joyce Hofbauer '76, Ginger Holm '76, Rosie Schulz '76, and Kim Wilcox '78.

The Des Plaines Park District is also sponsoring a trip the week of March 27 to April 3 for all high school students to Steamboat Springs, Colorado. The total cost of the trip is $281.47, which includes round trip air fare, seven nights lodging, and six days on lifts. The amount does not cover the cost of rentals.
