'Thoreau,' 'USA' To Be Presented

Two plays, under the name "American Theatre Voices," will be presented to the public on Feb. 5, 6, and 7. Cuttings from "U.S.A." and "The Night Thoreau Spent in Jail" are included.
"The Night Thoreau Spent in Jail" was written by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee. It will be directed by Mr. Ronald Mills. The play is about Henry David Thoreau, a non‑conformist who spends a night in jail because he was unwilling to pay taxes he didn't believe in.
The cast includes Steve Pelinski '77 as Henry David Thoreau; Scott Peckenpaugh '76 as Bailey; Ed Cutler '76 as John Thoreau; Stan Lata '76 as Deacon Ball; Megan Peterson '77 as Ellen Sewell; John Jones '77 as Waldo Emerson; Julie Stoneburner '78 as Mother; and Betsy Forkins '76 as the narrator. Amy Tuttle '78 is assistant director.
"U.S.A." is a play written by John Dos Passos and will be directed by Ms. Mariann Sullivan, speech teacher. Its cast members are Bruce Weaver '77, Kathleen Sanford '78, Sandy Scheffel '76, Tammy Huffaker '77, Frances Kosac '78, and Joe Anderson '76. Stan Lata '76 is assistant director.
"U.S.A." is about the history of the United States and covers the people and events in the early 1900's to the mid 1930's.
"U.S.A." was performed last Saturday, Jan. 10, at the Invitational Speech Tournament in North Chicago as a Reader's Theatre entry.
