VOL. XVII, NO. 7
The Maine West varsity wrestling squad has been very busy the past month. During that period the Warriors compiled a fine 6-1 record.
On Friday, Dec. 19, the varsity grapplers traveled to Niles North for a Central Suburban League conference match. The Warriors defeated the Vikings by a score of 45-13. The following day West went to Waukegan East where they met a strong Bulldog team. The Warriors lost the match 26-22.
Maine West then traveled to Lake Park for their eight-team invitational. The Warriors put on a fine exhibition of wrestling and took first place. Three West grapplers took individual first places. They were Tom Krauser, Rob Krusinski, and Dan Barringer. The total team standings went as follows: 1 - Maine West (1091/2); 2 - Romeoville (79); 3 Glenbard East (761/2); 4 Schaumburg (76); 5 – Maine North (72); 6 - Geneva (60); 7 - Elgin (59'/z); 8 - Lake Park (31'/z).
The Warriors stayed with their winning ways on Jan. 3 by defeating Forest View, 40-16, and Arlington, 41-9, in a double dual meet at Forest View. This meet saw some new faces in the Warrior lineup as two sophomores, Dave Cavazos and Don Arrigo, moved up to the varsity.
The Warrior matmen were again victorious last weekend. They defeated Glenbrook North, 23-19, Notre Dame 53-7, and Elmwood Park, 51-6. The latter was a dual meet at Notre Dame. The West grapplers record to this point stands at 11-4 overall and 3-0 in conference. They will be hoping to improve on it tonight against Niles West here.
On other levels the junior varsity has compiled a fine record. The sophomore squad has done quite well as of late by compiling a 6-3 record. The freshmen record stands at 4-7.
