Spikers Take Title,
Go for State Final
The Maine West girls' volleyball team is the conference champion. The team has an exceptionally good chance for going down to the state finals.

"I think we have an excellent chance. We work hard and are a strong team," said Coach Royleen Tipton.

On Dec. 16 the varsity beat Niles North, losing the first game by a score of 17-20 but coming back in the last two games with scores of 21-19 margin in both games.

The varsity won the game against Evanston on January 6 with scores of 20-17 and 21-19. The J.V. also won with scores of 15-8,15‑8.

The game against Niles East on Jan. 8 was also won by the varsity with scores of 17‑20, 20-11, 20-17. The varsity ended with 13 wins and 1 loss.
The J.V. split with Niles East scoring 14-15 and 17-15. The J.V. ended the season with 10 wins and 3 losses.

The varsity now plays in the districts which are being held Jan. 12-17. Ten teams will be competing at Lake Park. If varsity wins the districts, they will go on to sectionals at Glenbrook North on Jan. 22-23. Ten teams will be competing. Then varsity will then play in the super sectionals at Rolling Meadows if they win the sectionals.

From super sectionals the varsity will go on to State Finals on Jan. 30-31 at Illinois State University. The eight top teams will compete for the final victory.
