MW Bands Make Music
Maine West Concert, Cadet, and Intermediate Band students will give their first formal performance in joint concert at 3 p.m. on Feb. 15 in the auditorium. Tickets may be purchased at the door for $1 and $.75.

Included in the program for the combined Cadet and Intermediate Bands will be a concert march entitled "Sentry Boy," by John Cacavas, "Intravention," a contemporary composition by Thomas Tyra, and a novelty piece, "Beguine for Flutes" by Eric Osterling, featuring the flute section with band accompaniment. Directing the combined bands will be associate director of bands, Mr. Paul Magnusson.
Among the selections for the Concert Band are "MusicMakers" by Alfred Reed, "The Poet and Peasant Overture" by Van Suppe, "March from Symphonic Metamorpohis" by Paul Hindemith, and "Concertino for Solo Clarinet" by Carl Maria von Weber with Tom Fischer '76 as the clarinet soloist.

The Jazz Band will perform several numbers from their repertoire of jazz‑rock literature, including "Hang in There" by a composition written in the jazzrock idiom, by Sammy Nestico, "First Child," a jazz ballad originally written for Chicago by Robert Curnow; and "Drum Shtik" by J. Hill, featuring Steve Myers '76 on drum set.
