Student Council To, Send Flowers
Valentine's Day Delivery
Student Council is sponsoring a Secret Admirer's Day on Feb. 13. On this day carnations will be delivered to your favorite guy or gal during homeroom. Girls' pink carnations can be purchased for $1.50 and boys white carnations for $1. Flowers can be purchased in the bookstore and cafeteria on Feb. 9‑11.
Presidents' Day
Maine West will be closed on Presidents' Day, Thursday, Feb. 12. Classes will resume on Friday, Feb. 13.
Career Education
Career education is provided to help high school graduates feel more confident about their futures. A career education area service center was recently built in Arlington Heights to help teachers and administrators enforce career education in grades kindergarten to 12. The center will give out information about career education over a five county area in Northern Illinois.
Additional Scholar
Jean Schillmoeller was announced as another Illinois State Scholar by the commission last month. She was one of the selected students receiving a certificate of merit.
Institute Day
Friday, Mar. 5, is Institute Day at Maine West. Classes will not be held this day but will resume on Mar. 8.
Winter Awards Night
On Tuesday, Feb. 10, the girls' athletic department will hold there first Winter Awards Night in the auditorium at 7:30p.m. Awards will be given to varsity and junior varsity members of fall sports tennis, swimming, and archery; and winter sports - fencing, gymnastics, and volleyball.
