VOL. XVII, NO. 8
The twenty‑second annual Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow test, sponsored by General Mills, was given on Dec. 2. High schools all over the United States held this test for seniors, both boys and girls, on the same date. Fifty students from Maine West took the test; and out of those 50, one, Anita Niehaus, had the highest score and will now go on to the state competition. Anita, for having the best score, will receive a special certificate and will be honored at Maine West's annual awards night later this year.
Anita's test will now be entered with those other high school winners in Illinois to compete for the $1,500 college scholarship state award. The winners in the state competition will go on to the national finals, and four top national winners will be chosen. The four top winners will each receive scholarships of $5,000, $4,000, $3,000, and $2,000 going from first place down to fourth.
