Student Speaks
Dear Editor:
This is in reply to the ridiculous and absurd article which appeared in the Jan. 16 issue stating that the Pep Band was such a big attraction at the sports events, in particular basketball, and that without them there would be no noise at the game. This reply is from the team and a majority of the fans. First of all, let's get the facts straight. The Pep Band leaves the basketball game after half time and never returns. They are never heard by either the fans or the team during the game. On top of this, they were not at the basketball team's most important game at home against Niles West. The band should ask the team who gives them the most support, the Pep Band or the fans? And if you'll notice it's the fans that go to every game, both home and away, not the award winning Maine West Warrior Band. The appearance of the spirited Pep Band is embarrassing to the fans from the school because they do represent Maine West and old T‑shirts and weird hats do not impress other schools. For the amount of time they are at the game (half a game( and the amount of spirit they produce, they aren't really needed let alone brag about their poor and embarrassing showing.
