District Speech Tourney To Be at MW
Maine West will hold the Illinois High School Association District tournament on Feb. 28. The winning speakers and actors will move on to compete in the sectional tournament at Deerfield High School.

Bradley University will be the sight of the State Championship Tournament. There, students from all over Illinois will compete for awards in such categories as original oration, oratorical declamation, original comedy, dramatic and humorous duet acting, dramatic and humorous interpretation, extempore speaking, prose and verse reading, and radio speaking.

The Maine West Speech Team is expected to do well in the district tournament, according to coach Mr. Ron Mills. Of the 16 schools in the Maine West district, only four are top ranked. Maine West and Maine South are the two strongest, with Evanston and Maine East close behind.

Eight Reader's Theatre events are entered in the district tournament. These performances will be held in L-101. Seven dramatic plays are to compete on the twenty-eighth, and they will be done in the auditorium.
Maine West's Reader's Theatre entry has already won a second place trophy this year. "U.S.A." and "The Night Thoreau Spent in Jail," Maine West's contest play, are in production in L-101 at 8 p.m. tonight and tomorrow.

Last year, two Maine West students went past the district tournament and sectionals on to the State Championship Tournament, Scott Peckenpaugh '76 won sixth place in original oration and Mary Jo Zalabak '76 took ninth place in dramatic interpretation.
